    Project description

    The present project entitled “Polymer-based materials as sorbents for the enhanced removal of oil spills and dyes from the contaminated waters” was implemented at “Petru Poni” Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry from Iasi, which belongs to the Romanian Academy. The project was carried out by a team composed of young researchers that included a principal investigator, two postdoctoral researchers and two PhD students. The research directions and expertise of the team members were appropriate for the project implementation, e.g. polymer-based materials, magnetic nanoparticles, porous materials and the optimization of physical-chemical processes. The main goal of the present project was to design and develop novel polymer-based materials with high sorption efficiency for applications in chemical environmental engineering. The project was structured in two main research directions:
(1) design and development of the sustainable polymer-based sorbents for oil spill cleanup;
(2) preparation of new polymeric composite materials for the enhanced removal of dyes from contaminated waters.
    The project was focused on both experimental and modeling approaches. The expected results implied the obtaining of efficient polymer-based sorbents of practical interest for environmental engineering.
